Join the Nevada Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (NvCLPPP) in our mission to prevent lead poisoning and build lead-safe communities. Through hands-on learning, research, and community partnerships, we offer opportunities to make a meaningful impact in environmental public health:
Student Internships
NvCLPPP partners with the UNLV School of Public Health to offer an internship that supports student learning while advancing lead poisoning prevention efforts across Nevada and beyond. This opportunity is available during the Fall and Spring semesters to undergraduate and graduate students in Public Health and Healthcare Administration completing their capstone experience.
Our interns may:
- Design and support community outreach and education efforts focused on preventing environmental exposures
- Assist with public health data collection, analysis, and reporting
- Contribute to the development of health communication materials that translate environmental data into accessible messages for diverse audiences
- Collaborate with faculty, program staff, and community or international partners on ongoing public health initiatives
- Explore research interests aligned with lead poisoning prevention and program priorities
- Practical experience in environmental public health
- Exposure to real-world public health programs, partnerships, and community-engaged initiatives
- Professional skills in research, communication, and collaboration
- Access to mentorship from public health professionals that continues beyond your internship
Time commitment is flexible and determined by student availability and academic requirements. Interns will meet with faculty mentors weekly to review their progress and receive guidance.
Interns will contribute to the development of health communication resources, including:
- Educational flyers and outreach materials
- Social media messaging for public health campaigns
- Fact sheets summarizing lead exposure risks and prevention strategies
- Policy briefs or informational summaries for community stakeholders
We work with healthcare providers across Nevada to improve blood lead testing, follow-up, and prevention efforts through:
- Provider engagement and education
- Mini-grant opportunities
- Implementation of point-of-care testing devices to improve access to in-clinic blood lead testing
We work with local and global partners to:
- Conduct research on lead exposure and its impacts
- Develop and support community-based initiatives
- Improve strategies for prevention and response
