Lead Risk Alert: FDA Adds Two Additional Cookware Items to Warning List

Erika Silao

On December 3rd, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expanded their cookware warning list to include two additional products. The FDA is recalling these products because they may be contaminating your food with lead. Only one of these products has been recalled at this time, so consumers are advised to avoid purchasing the following products and check their kitchens for them:

Aluminum Deg Style Patila #4, 3B Cookware (RECALLED 10/28/25)

Handmade Brass Tope, no brand (Sold at Diya Handicrafts in Chicago, IL)

Why Is This a Concern?

These cookware items are often used across various cultures. Certain imported cookware from low-and middle-income countries are made of aluminum, brass, and aluminum alloys (like Hindalium/Hindolium or Indalium/Indolium), which can release lead during cooking or food storage and contaminate food. While Nevada was not listed among the distribution states, families in Nevada may still be affected if the product was purchased online, received from out-of-state retailers, or brought in by family and friends.

Even low levels of lead can harm young children and pregnant people. It can affect a child’s growth, learning, and overall development. Parents should take these next steps to protect their family from lead exposure:

What Should You Do?

  1. Do not use these products to cook or store food.
  2. Do not donate or refurbish these products.
  3. Use stainless steel or other safer alternatives whenever possible.
  4. Call your healthcare provider if you are concerned about potential lead exposure and ask about a blood lead level test.
  5. Sign up for our newsletter for the latest lead-related product recalls.
