Why Is This a Concern?
This product is part of the FDA’s ongoing public health alert for ground cinnamon products that contain high levels of lead. Lead can contaminate cinnamon through the environment or during processing. Many families might already have ground cinnamon in their pantries, which makes it easier for them to be unknowingly exposed if the product is contaminated with lead.
There is no safe level of lead exposure. Children and pregnant people are especially vulnerable to the effects of lead. It impacts a child’s growth, learning, and behavior. Past and present lead exposure can also impact a pregnant person’s unborn baby. Children exposed to lead often do not look or act sick, so it is important that parents take these next steps to protect their family’s health.
