Why Is This a Concern?

This product is part of the FDA’s ongoing public health alert for ground cinnamon products that contain measurable amounts of lead. Cinnamon can become contaminated with lead through the soil and water where it is grown or during processing. Since ground cinnamon is commonly used in households, families may be unknowingly exposed to lead if contaminated products are consumed.

Even small amounts of lead can be harmful. Children and pregnant people are particularly vulnerable because lead can affect a child’s growth, learning, and behavior. Past or current lead exposure in a pregnant person can also impact the developing baby. Children exposed to lead often do not show immediate signs of illness, which is why it is important that parents take these next steps to protect their family’s health.

What Should You Do?

  1. Do not consume this product.
  2. Discard the recalled product or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
  3. Call your healthcare provider if you are concerned about potential lead exposure and ask about a blood lead level test.
  4. Sign up for our newsletter to stay up-to-date on lead-related recalls.
