Intro
On July 10, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of about 200 units of SPPTTY Kids Bicycles due to potential lead contamination. The bicycles are pink with brown seat covers, brown handlebars, brown pedals and brown baskets. They were sold in 14-inch and 18-inch sizes online at Walmart from August 2024 to December 2024 for about $85.
Multiple parts of the children’s bicycles have lead levels that exceed the federal ban on lead content. Additionally, the black paint on the bicycle pumps has lead levels that exceed the federal lead paint ban. To date, there have been no reported cases of incidents or injuries.

Why Is This a Concern?
For many children, a bike is a key part of growing up. It encourages exercise, exploration, and independence. But when something meant to support a child’s health and development contains a hidden hazard like lead, it puts that progress at risk.
There is no safe level of lead, even at small amounts. Young children are particularly vulnerable to lead exposure because they often put their hands and objects in their mouth. In this case, lead-containing paint on a kids’ bicycle poses a direct risk of ingesting lead.
Exposure to lead at a young age can cause a range of serious health and developmental issues that affect a child’s growing body and brain. These effects can be permanent and may lead to serious health problems later in life. Because the signs of lead exposure can be hard to detect, parents should take the following steps to protect their family’s health.
What Should You Do?
- Stop using and disassemble the bicycle immediately.
- Submit a photo of the disassembled product to SPPTTY at lishkjie@163.com for a full refund.
- Contact your local Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) program to safely dispose of your product*.
- Call your healthcare provider if you are concerned about potential lead exposure and ask about a blood lead level test.
*Read this bulletin to learn how to contact your local HHW in Nevada.
